When most people think of foot fungus, they think of athlete’s foot. This fungus is actually called Trichophyton. It earned the name athlete’s foot from thriving in athletic environments where many people are wearing heavy foot gear and using a communal shower.
The fungus is contracted when the sufferer walks barefoot over a surface where the Trichophyton lives then putting the feet into the warm, moist irritating environment of an athletic shoe. The symptoms of athlete’s foot will have you searching for a remedy quickly. Typically, the worst is the nagging itching and burning. The other hard to ignore problem is the peeling skin, or if it isn’t addressed fast enough the cracking, pain and even bleeding will compete to ruin your day. A foot fungus cream needs to offer an immediate cooling and stop the itch as fast as its spread.

The foot fungus cream should have a topical antifungal agent listed in the ingredients. Most commonly the active ingredient is miconazole nitrate at a 2% concentration and tolnaftate at 1%.
If over the counter foot fungal cream doesn’t do the trick a doctor might prescribe a strong cream or gel. There is an oral medication a doctor might prescribe for a very stubborn foot fungal problems, but this is almost always after all over remedies have been tried.
